Verse: And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:9-10
The great hymn Jesus Paid It All, always comes to mind when I think of the fact that Jesus paid a price for me. “Jesus Paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.” Jesus paid a price for us so that we may be with Him for eternity. What a blessing!
When we think back to our commanders in the military or bosses at work, none of them had to sacrifice anything to get us or pay a price for us to be their soldiers. We were stationed at the base, assigned to the company so and so, and then we just show up and start to work. Whoever is the commander of that company is now our commander.
In fact, we had to sacrifice something to be there. All soldiers left their homes to go to basic training to “try out” for the military and be sent wherever Uncle Sam decided they would go. This is not so in our spiritual soldiering. Jesus, our commander paid a price for every one of His soldiers.
In 1 Corinthians 6:12-20, Paul is talking about sexual immorality and not falling into it as Christians. He explains that we are one with Christ so we should not become one with a prostitute. He also uses the argument our bodies are now a temple of the Holy Spirit and that because of that we are not to pollute the temple. What he says at the end of verse 19 and into 20 is this, “You are not your own, you have been bought with a price. So, glorify God with your bodies”.
That price that Christ paid for us is His perfect blood that was shed for our sins. Jesus loved us so much that he gave his life for me and for you because He knew this was the only way we could come to Him. He knew that His blood was the only price that was worthy enough for our souls.
So why would Christ do this? If we take a look at ourselves do, we really see someone who is worthy of this sacrifice?? The answer is no. We are all wretched sinners; deserving of the damnation and destruction we are headed for. But Christ rich in mercy saves us by His grace. Nothing we can do can earn that grace and peace, but it is a free gift.
Knowing that Christ died for you and paid a price for you should motivate you to work hard for Him. We were saved for a purpose and the fact that now Christ has given us that meaning means that we are to fill ourselves with that and serve Him and others with love and aggression. You were bought with a price, therefore serve our Lord with all you got.
